London, UK – 7th December 2024

The International acting Superstar Dhanush was the Guest of Honour when he launched the London leg of the 7th Annual Diabetes Walk which took place in Edgware, London. Dhanush was invited by the Charity’s Founder- Patron Rt Hon Keith Vaz 

The launch attracted participants from all walks of life and its aim was to promote awareness of diabetes and its prevention. Organised by the Silver Star Diabetes Charity, the walk spotlighted the importance of early diagnosis and management of this growing global health challenge.

Dhanush’s presence energised the crowd and underscored the event’s global reach and significance. There are approximately 537 million people with diabetes in the world of which 4.9 million are in the UK and 101 million live in India. 

The 10miles walk led by Mr Vaz began in Toronto, Canada and further miles have been undertaken in Chicago, USA and Daman in India. The next leg will take place in Thrissur in Kerala, India. 

Rt Hon Keith Vaz a Type 2 diabetes patient said: 

“It is a massive boost to the charity to have Dhanush launch the London leg of the annual walk. His presence will remind people of the importance of looking after their health. One is six diabetes sufferers are of Asian origin. Everyone of us knows someone with diabetes. We must stem this epidemic. I am really grateful to Saravana Bhavan London for hosting the lunch after the event.”
